Dr. Alex Pym is an Associate Investigator at the Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) in Durban (previously known as K-RITH), and Associate Professor of Medical Microbiology at the Nelson Mandela School of Medicine, University of KwaZulu-Natal. After obtaining his medical qualification from London University, he completed his PhD at Pasteur Institute, followed by post-doctoral studies at Stanford University. Prior to joining AHRI he worked on the clinical development of new drugs for MDR tuberculosis at the SA Medical Research Council. His laboratory in AHRI is focused on understanding mechanisms of antibiotic resistance and tolerance in M. tuberculosis.
